Vaccination Week in the Americas
April 25-May 2, 2015
"Boost your Power! Get vaccinated!"
This is the 13th annual Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA).
The theme for this year's program is "Boost your power! Get vaccinated!"
Vaccines aid your immune system to guard against more than 20 vaccine preventable illnesses.
The inception of VWA was 2003. A measles outbreak in 2002 in two countries, Venezuela and Colombia lead to a coordinated effort to vaccinate. Nineteen counties originally participated in this program in 2003. An estimated 519 million people of all ages have been vaccinated under VWA since 2003. The idea of VWA is to promote and give access to populations with little or no access to regular health services in this region.
