This is a genetic disease that causes red blood cells to morph into a sickle shaped cell. This shape causes issues when the blood flows through the small blood vessels. The website listed gives a good history of the disease.

This week’s goal is to educate people about suicide prevention, the warning signs of suicide and decrease the stigma about suicide.

Sept 1 National Sickle Cell Day (versus WORLD sickle cell day on June 19)

This year’s theme is “Sickle Cell disorder: Importance of Self Care”




Sept 10 (same date every year) World Suicide Prevention Day- This day helps promote worldwide action to prevent suicides.

Facts: nearly 1 million people commit suicide annually.

It is estimated that for every suicide there are 20 attempted suicides.


Sept 13 (the same date every year) National Celiac Disease Awareness Day Sept 13


Celiac disease affects nearly 3 million Americans. People with Celiac Disease cannot consume gluten. Gluten is found in wheat, barley and rye. The immune response attaches the small intestine and inhibits complete absorption of nutrients.




World Rabies Day September 28

This year is the 16th year for highlighting World Rabies Day.

This year’s theme is “One Health, Zero Death”

Rabies is one of the oldest diseases. There are vaccines, medicines and other tools to stop rabies death.
