Who's got YOUR back??
The American Academy of Dermatology (www.aad.org) is asking that question in recognition of Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month.
That's right May is Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month.
Do you know the most common location of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer?
Your back
According a survey performed by the AAD 43% of people rarely or never asks anyone to apply sunscreen to their backs. Some people (37%) rarely or never apply sunscreen to their back. Whenever possible stay in a shady area or wear protective clothing to protect your skin.

A Few Facts
1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer. Exposure to ultraviolet light (UV light) is the most preventable risk factor for skin cancer. If caught early enough the five year survival rate is 98% if it is detected and treated before it spreads to the lymph nodes.
According to the AAD one person dies of melanoma every hour and over 3.5 million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed every year.
The AAD has launched a large campaign to help educate the public about how to reduce their risk of skin cancer and how to spot skin cancer. They have a website:
