Firework safety

July 4th is nearly upon us. So I thought this would be a great time to mention firework safety.

Listed below is where most of the injuries occur on the body:

36 % hands and fingers

19% eyes, heads, face and ears

11% trunk

10% legs

5 % arms

More than 50% of the injuries are burns.

Injuries by types of fireworks:

20% firecrackers

19% sparklers

9% reloadable shells

6% novelties

4% roman candles

4 % public displays.

2 % Bottle rockets

1% fountains

Here are a few safety tips:

Never re light or pick an un ignited firework.

Keep water nearby such as a bucket or near a spigot and hose.

Light one firework at a time.

Once lit move away quickly from the firework.
