You probably have noticed that the majority of my blogs revolve around health care topics. This blog is not intended to give in depth medical information. Now having said that, today's topic is about a fairly unknown topic to most of us:

Group B Strep or GBS

This bacteria, Group B streptococcus (or streptococcus agalactiae) can be found in the gut and in the birth canal of about 25% of pregnant women.

A baby's immune system is not fully developed. Therefore a baby can become infected with the bacteria while in the womb or for about 6 months post partum. There are 3 classes of the disease: prenatal onset, early onset and late onset.
