This blog is just a reminder that this is Immunization Awareness MonthJ
This week the CDC (Center of Disease Control and Prevention) is focusing on Pregnant Women.
Last weeks focus was on Preteens and Teens.
Women should try to be up-to date with their vaccines before they get pregnant. Contracting a vaccine-preventable disease while pregnant can be serious a health issue, such as contracting rubella.
Mothers-to-be can get the flu vaccine and whooping cough vaccine while pregnant according to the CDC. Receiving a whooping cough vaccine during the third trimester allows the mom to develop antibodies and then pass this protection on to her baby. Likewise the flu vaccine can cause the mom to make antibodies for herself as well as passing them onto her baby for early protection.
