Childhood Cancer Month September 2015

The goal of this "Awareness" month along with all the other "awareness" months is simply that, to bring awareness to this and other diseases.

Roughly 15,000 children are diagnosed with cancer annually. Unfortunately about 25% will not survive.

Some good news, 80% of survivors live at least 5 years and most are cured. This cure rate is thanks to all the cancer research over the past decades. It is estimated that there are nearly 400,000 childhood cancer survivors today.

There are risks to the childhood cancer treatments though. Some side effects may not appear until months or years after treatment. Some future side effects may include: heart and/or lung problems, learning problems, increased risk of other cancers later in life and delayed growth.
