Lung Cancer Awareness Month

The most important thing you can do to lower your lung cancer risk is to quit smoking and avoid secondhand smoke per the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention).

Also, test your home for radon, a naturally occurring gas that comes from rocks and dirt.

Facts

--Annually about 200,000 people are told they have lung cancer in the U.S. Of this 200,000 nearly 150,000 die.

--About 90% of lung cancers are linked to cigarette smoking.

--Second hand smoke is smoke from someone who is smoking. Second hand smoke is as if you were smoking. 7,300 people who have never smoked die from lung cancer due to secondhand smoke.

--Fortunately lung cancer rates are falling as are smokers.

--Smoking can cause cancer in other parts of the body as well.

--A white Ribbon brings awareness to lung cancer.

--Lung cancer is the leading cause of death in the U.S.

--Lung Cancer is the second most common cancer in men and women is the U.S.
