Family Health History Day

Thanksgiving Day

The United States Surgeon General has declared Thanksgiving to be the National Family Health History Day. People are encouraged to discuss their family health history as they share their time together.

The people in your family who share the same genes, possible lifestyles and environments are your parents, brothers, sisters and your children.

So you may want to start with these members of your family.

Next you could talk to your grandparents, aunts, uncles, niece, nephews, half-brothers or half-sisters.

A few questions to ask may include:

Do you have any chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes?

Any serious health concerns such as cancer, stroke?

What is our family heritage?

After you have collected this information be sure to share it with your physician.
