Toy and Gift safety

This time of the year is a good time to remind people about toy/gift safety.

The U.S Consumer Product and Safety commission has created a very good safety program. They require testing of products by and independent, third party testing labs, limit the amount of lead in toys, and try to stop dangerous toys from entering the U.S. These combined efforts help create consumer confidence with toys.

Here are a few safety tips for toys:

Children can suffocate on balloons so keep balloons away from children.

Avoid toys with small parts for children under 3 years old.

Helmets and safety gear should be worn when riding bikes, scooters, skates or anything similar.

Once gifts are open:

Throw away plastic wrapping and other packaging.

Keep toys appropriate for older kids away from younger kids.

Adults should supervise battery charging.
