National Kidney Month 2016
Take Five
This moth the National Kidney Foundation is asking us to fake five healthy steps for our kidneys.
1. Get your kidneys tested. Ask your doctor for an ACR urine test or GFR Blood test if you are diabetic, have high blood pressure or are over 69 years old. Contact the ational Kidney's Foundation's KEEP Healthy Program. Go to www.kidney.org/KEEPHealthy.
2. Reduce your intake of NSAIDS-Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
3. Cut the processed Foods. Processed foods can be high sources of sodium, nitrates and phosphates which have been linked to cancer, heart dieases and kidney disease.
4. Exercise regularly.
5. Control blood pressure and diabetes.
What do your kidneys do???
One job of the kidneys is to filter waste. Also kidneys help contral red blood cell production and control blood pressure. Kidneys can become damaged with little or no warning. It is estimated the 26 million people have kidney disease but know it.
A Few Facts
1 in 3 Americans adults is at risk of developing kidney disease.
Major risk factors include: high blood pressure, diabetes, family history and over the age of 60 years old.
1 in 9 Americans have kidney diease.
Early detection and treatment can help slow or prevent the progression of kidney disease.
Kidney disease risk can be reduced by: controlling blood pressure, diabetes, stop smoking, exercise, maintaining a good healthy weight and avoid too much NSAIDS.
