Children's eye Health/Safety Month
The American Academy of Ophthalmology observes eye health every month of the year. To see what eye topics are covered go to aao.org/newsroom/observances.
August is Children's eye Health and Safety month
This is really by design since many kids are headed back to school. What better time to remember to get an eye check up.
The AAO has 4 tips on their website for children.
1. Get regular childhood screenings
2. Know and Share your family eye health history
3. Watch for signals of eye problems
4. Wear protective eyewear when playing sports.
I am going to focus on the fourth tip: eye protection.
Did you know that there are 2.4 million eye injuries annually? 90% of all injuries could be prevented by using protective eyewear.
A foreign body in the eye is the most common type of injury-about 35% of all injuries.
The most likely to be hurt are 18-45 years old.
