Autism Awareness Month
Autism has been defined as

a developmental disability and includes numerous functions. Hence, the name autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD is defined by a set of behaviors that can affect people in different ways. Some behaviors include: delayed language learning, difficulty holding a conversation and/ or making eye contact; narrow yet potentially intense interests; sensory sensitivities and poor motor skills.
There is no “cure” for autism but it is treatable. Early diagnosis and intervention can lead to improved outcome for individuals. The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) has a good website to see childhood milestones. Go to https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html
The Autism Society has a monthly E-Newsletter with the latest updates regarding Autism. They also sponsor the largest gathering of people with autism at the annual National Conference and Exposition on Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Also, on their website you can find links to 2 online courses about autism. Their website is
www.autism-society.org
Another good website is Austismspeaks.org
