Hello and welcome February 2018!!

This month we want to highlight a couple of days.

Feb 2 Wear Red Day

February is American Heart Month. The Wear Red Day raises awareness about cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease kills about 1 woman every 80 seconds. However, it is estimated the 80% of cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle change.

Feb 4 is World Cancer Day

The theme for World Cancer Day 2018: We can. I can.

This day is to highlight organizations and individuals coming together to raise awareness about cancer.

The Empire State Building will be lit up in blue and orange lights. The colors signify the colors representing the Union for International Cancer Control.

Feb 6 is Give Kids a Smile Day (GKAS)

This program was started in 2003 by the ADA, American Dental Association. So far over 5 million underserved children have benefitted from this program.

GKAS Day is celebrated nationwide on the first Friday of every February. However Give Kids A Smile (GKAS) events occur throughout the year. For example, in August GKAS back to school events take place.

Feb 7 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day #NBHAAD

This year's theme: "Stay the Course, the Fight is Not Over!"

It is estimated the just under 500,000 African Americans are living with HIV. And it is estimated the just under 75,000 are unaware of their infection.

Feb 14 National Donor Day

This awareness day started in 1998. Just one donor can save up to 8 lives through organ donation.
