February is National Children's Dental Health Month

This year the slogan is:

Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth for a healthy smile

NCDHM began in Ohio as a one day event February 3 1941. The American Dental Association began observing this day in 1949.

This single day event stretched to a week long event in 1955. The about 30 years later in 1981 the program was extended to a month long observance.

The observance is to raise awareness of good oral health. The ADA believes that establishing good habits as children and regular check ups help lead to a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
