National Immunization Awareness Month
Vaccines play a vital role for everyone, children and adults, in preventing serious diseases. Children of all ages can easily spread illness to each other from poor hand washing or not covering their coughs and sneezes. If children are not vaccinated they are at increased risk for diseases and can spread diseases to others in their environment such as day cares, schools and communities. This includes spreading illnesses to infants who are not fully immunized or people with weakened immune systems.
Vaccines protect babies from 14 diseases by the time they reach 2 years of age. Many vaccines require several doses before a person is fully immunized. For the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) recommended vaccine schedule please go to https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/child-adolescent.html/
The flu or influenza vaccine is a yearly vaccine that people should considered receiving. December highlights this vaccine as we observe National Influenza Awareness Week.
