Today is the Great American Smoke.
The American Cancer Society has dubbed the third Thursday of November as the Great American Smoke-Out. This is to help encourage people to quit smoking.
Do you know that nearly 38 million Americans still smoke cigarettes? Smoking causes about 1 in 5 deaths in the U.S. Sadly, worldwide smoking remains the single largest preventable cause of death and illness.
Smoking has dropped quite a bit since the 1960’s but there is still 15% of the population smoking in the U.S.
The decision to quit smoking can be difficult but actually succeeding can be just as difficult. The American Cancer Society can help. Call 1-800-227-2345 to learn about programs, resources and support that may increase your odds at quitting.
