National Dental Hygiene Month

This month is all about promoting healthy mouths. Plus celebrating the dental hygienists that clean your teeth!!

Fresh breath, strong teeth and healthy gums are all part of oral health. It is important to get regular dental checkups and cleanings at your dentist’s office.

Fun Facts

1913 A dentist, Dr. Fones, opened the first dental hygiene school in the world. Several classes graduated from the school. However, in 1916 Dr. Fones closed the school so he could travel and prove his successful idea of good oral hygiene.

1948 The first bristle toothbrush

1949 The Fones School of Dental Hygiene reopened at the University of Bridgeport. The school is named after Dr. Alfred C. Fones, who was a pioneer in the dental hygiene world.

2009 The birth of National Dental Hygiene Month.

This year Dental Hygienists will be featured in a national campaign with Walgreens and Listerine to promote good oral health. The promotion name #DoTheSwish. I copied information from their website with the details on how to win some money.

Look for the ADHA logo on the LISTERINE display (pictured below) at the local Walgreens Store you selected. Can't find the display, or the logo isn't there yet? Don't panic! Getting to all the stores takes a little time. Check back soon!
