Happy Thanksgiving!!

Wow, November already! Is it just me or did this year go quick?

November is a month to focus on several healthcare topics. I will mention just a few.

November highlights:

American Diabetes Month

Lung Cancer Awareness Month

Healthy Skin Month

Plus The Great American Smokeout Day

Are you at risk for diabetes? To find out take a test at https://www.diabetes.org/risk-test.

This year’s focus is on the link between diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Adults with diabetes are nearly twice as likely to die from heart disease or stroke as people without diabetes. Why? Over time high blood glucose can damage your blood vessels and the nerves that control your heart per (NIH). (NIH is the National Institute of Health).

So the theme this year is “Take Diabetes To Heart” https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/communication-programs/ndep/partner-community-organization-information/national-diabetes-month

Lung Cancer- instead of typing some stats I will just give you a link

The Great American Smoke Out is the 3rd Thursday of November. So this year it is November 21, 2019.

The idea is to encourage people to quit smoking. Do you know that 34 million Americans still smoke? There are tools available to help people quit smoking. Call 800-227-2345 to learn about available tools to help you or someone you know to quit smoking. Quitting can be quite difficult. However, the sooner you quit the more you can decrease your chances of getting cancer.

Healthy Skin Month

Our feet are padded with the thickest skin on our bodies. Do you know the thinnest? Keep reading.

We shed a lot of dead skin. Our skin renews itself almost monthly.

8 out of 10 Americans will have acne issues.

Skin Cancer affects upwards of 20% of the population. The 2 most common forms of skin cancer are squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. The answer is eyelids. Eyelids have the thinnest skin.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Also, this month and next month I will blog just once each month. Thanks for all your support!

Karen
