Well April showers truly gave us May flowers where I live. The trees are blooming and flowers sprouting. The month of May gives us many healthcare topics to consider and be mindful of. Researching these topics on your own is important to help you understand diseases you may be facing now or in the future.

Melanoma Monday 2022
Melanoma is an aggressive form of skin cancer. Cells within moles become cancerous and can quickly move to other areas in the body.
ABCDE of skin cancer
A-asymmetry Draw an imaginery line through the center of the mole. If the 2 sides are not equal in size the mole is asymmetric. Therefore seek medical care.
B-border If the border is irregular seek medical care.
C-Color If the mole is not a uniform color then seek medical care.
D-diameter If diamter of mole is larger than ¼ inch seek medical care.
E-Evolving Has the mole changes size, shape or color? Seek medical care.
Asthma is a chronic disease that affects the lungs. Symptoms include breathlessness, coughing, wheezing, tightness in the chest. Airways may become inflamed which makes breathing difficult.

Celiac Awareness Month
Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disease which attacks the small intestines. Therefore, the absorption of nutrients from foods is impacted.
Lyme Disease Awareness Month
Lyme disease is caused by the bite of an infected tick with a bacteria called, Borrelia burgdorferi.
Symptoms in the early phase of disease are flu-like such as fatigue, joint and muscle pain. Also a rash.
Later symptoms are fatigue, mental issues, arthritis.
Skin Cancer Awareness Month
There is no cure for melanoma. It does not respond well to chemotherapy. Early detection is the key. Please see the chart above to help monitor moles on your skin.
