Hello, as I stated in the last post this is a repeat of March 3. The reason is because this is a rather lengthy post. I thought about adding a few more facts about each highlighted health topic and cutting the post in half so I could submit two different posts this month . However, I ultimately decided to post the same blog twice.
Month-long observance
National Kidney Month 2020
https://www.kidney.org/content/national-kidney-month
Get to know your hard-working kidneys.
6 ways kidneys keep you healthy:
Regulate fluid, activate Vit. D for healthy bones, filters wastes from the blood, directs production of red blood cells, regulate BP and keep blood mineral in balance.
8 problems kidney disease can cause= nerve damage, cardiovascular disease, weak bones, heart attack, high BP, stroke, kidney failure and anemia/low re blood count
4 risks actors= diabetes, high BP, age 60+, family history
7 symptoms= swelling in face, hands, abdomen, ankles and feet. Blood in urine or foamy urine, puffy eyes, difficult or painful urination, increased thirst and fatigue
2 tests you can take (blood and urine)
Urine albumin to creatinine ration which estimates the amount of a type of protein, albumin, that you excrete in your urine.
GFR==glomerular filtration rate which tells your kidneys are working to remove waste form your blood. It is the easiest way to check kidney functions. Doctors measure blood creatinine (waste build up) levels and perform a calculation based on race, age and gender.

It’s time we strengthen TB education and awareness among health care providers.
